Elements of Your New Tile or Slate Roof
Tile, made of hard ceramic, is natural weather- and rot-resistant. Once made of baked clay, modern roofing tiles include stone, metal, glass, and ceramic with enhanced efficiency and durability. Tile is installed with nails, from the roof's framework, in an overlapping pattern that hides the nails and keeps out the elements. M & M Roofing, Siding & Windows offers real tile, as well as tile-look shingles at a reduced cost.
Slate, a very low-absorbing stone, is highly resistant to water damage or breakage due to freezing. It is a good electrical insulator and naturally fireproof. Its two lines of breakability make it possible to split it into thin sheets for natural-looking roofing shingles that are flat and easily stackable. Also available are synthetic slate shingles that can be less expensive than real slate. Slate roof shingles are installed typically with nail fixing or hook fixing.
